Depth of Trance

When you engage in hypnosis, how the process takes place is up to you. You cannot 'do it wrong'. There is nothing you are 'supposed' to do. Your mind works in a way that is unique to you, and different from everyone else. How it works is impossible to predict ahead of time.

Hypnosis is a quieting and distracting of the conscious mind in order to bypass the critical factor and allow helpful suggestions to reach the subconscious, where the real work begins. Whatever occurs during the process is natural, and okay, and can be used to reach even deeper levels of relaxation.

Some people worry that they are doing it wrong, or that there is something specific that they are supposed to be doing or feeling. That is just evidence that the conscious mind is still operating, trying to direct you and tell you how to do things. When the conscious mind worries about right and wrong, then it has not yet been bypassed. Therefore suggestions cannot reach the depth of mind that is necessary for hypnosis to be effective.

Once you've reached a 'place' where you feel relaxed and your mind is focused inward, then you are at a trance depth sufficient for suggestions to take hold. You will know when your mind is focused inward, because it will not be concerned with 'how'.

To use hypnosis for your greatest benefit, just let go of wondering and worrying about whether or not you're doing it right and let the process take shape in its own way. Allow the body and mind to relax as much as it wants or needs to. Let go of the chattering conscious mind and your hypnosis experience will be perfect for you.

And one more thing: Your hypnosis experience can vary from time to time; sometimes you will feel as though you're 'deeply' into trance, and other times you will feel perfectly aware of everything that is being said. Or, you may experience something in between those two; whatever you experience is perfect and right for you, as long as your conscious mind has ceased its chatter.

The key to getting the 'right' depth of trance is to just stop worrying about it at all. Your mind and body are very wise, and they know what they need. When you get out of your own way, your hypnosis experience will be just right for you.
